Digital Dentistry
Digital dentistry has arrived in Yeppoon, making your oral health care at Keppel Dental
faster, safer and more comfortable.
Dental work that usually takes weeks, is now completed in a few days. And uncomfortable gooey impressions are a thing of the past. Using the 3Shape Trios Intraoral Scanner we can take detailed, accurate scans of your mouth in 10 minutes or less.
What is digital dentistry?
Digital dentistry is the latest technology available in oral health care. A small camera moves around your mouth and records highly accurate 3D impressions of your teeth and gums. It’s more comfortable and precise than using mouth trays for modelling.
Keppel Dental are using digital dentistry for
- Crown and bridge work
Completed in 2-3 days, rather than weeks - Surgical guides
For safer, more precise implant procedures - Dental splints
Grinding and clenching guards measured, made and fitted

How it works
Luke, a dentist at Keppel Dental, says:
“Step one is creating a treatment plan for the dental care you need. This guides us when scanning your mouth and lets us prepare the materials for your new crown, bridge, implant or dental splint.
Next, we scan your mouth, which involves moving a small wand camera around your teeth and gums. Full-colour images are captured and later fed into a computer. Scanning takes 10 minutes maximum and, if you’re interested, we can position the screen so you can see your teeth and mouth as we do it.
After your appointment, we analyse the digital images and design your new crown, bridge or splint. If you’re having an implant, we’ll make a 3D map of your mouth and from this, we can make a surgical guide. This is printed on resin and laid over your teeth and gums giving us a clear picture of the best and safest way to guide your implant.”
The convenience of creating crowns on site
Crowns and implants made at Keppel Dental mean your treatment is completed sooner. Previously, it could take anywhere between one and four weeks for an offsite supplier to complete crown work. Now, using the 3D imaging and printing we can mill ready-to-use resin and zirconia crowns in just 1-3 days.
If your stay in Yeppoon is short, you can see us on a Friday and your crown can be ready and fitted by Monday.
